For International Women’s Day, we’re taking a moment to recognize the incredible strength women embody — not just in fitness, but in every aspect of life. Strength is about more than lifting weights; it’s about resilience, confidence, and showing up for yourself every day. We asked our inspiring WeGym affiliates to share what strength means to them, how fitness has empowered their journey, and their best advice for women just starting out.
What Does Strength Mean to You?
For many, strength is about more than just physical ability—it’s about mental and emotional resilience, too.
💪 “Strength isn’t just about lifting weights or pushing through workouts—it’s about showing up for yourself, even on the hard days.” – Monica
💪 “Strength means being able to do all the things life has to offer without wondering if I’ll be strong enough to do it!” – Jenn
💪 “Strength to me is being sturdy enough to withstand the waves without getting knocked all over the place. We were given only one body for this life ~ make it STRONG!!" – Andy
Strength comes in many forms, but at its core, it’s about believing in yourself, prioritizing your well-being, and building the confidence to take on life’s challenges.
How Has Fitness Empowered Your Journey?
Fitness is about more than just movement — it’s a tool for self-care, confidence, and empowerment.
✨ “Fitness empowers my journey by giving me the energy, confidence, and mental clarity to navigate my busy life as a mom and a barre instructor.” – Chelsea
✨ “Fitness has given me more than physical strength—it’s helped me feel like me again postpartum. It’s not about chasing a ‘dream body’ but about moving in a way that makes me feel good, capable, and energized for my family.” – Monica
✨ “Having a consistent fitness routine keeps me feeling energetic and powerful every day! Good nutrition and sleep are also key. My mom still works out at least 4-5 times a week in her 80’s! I want to be just like her some day and stay active, mobile and strong for life.“ - Jenn
No matter what stage of life you’re in, movement can be a powerful way to reconnect with yourself, relieve stress, and build strength in every sense of the word.
Advice for Women Just Starting Their Fitness Journey
Starting something new can feel overwhelming, but the best advice? Just start.
💡 “Start small (little moments of movement add up) and choose activities that bring you joy. Yes, workouts should be challenging but they should NOT be something you dread!” – Brittney
💡 “Find what makes you feel good after you are done with a workout ~ body and soul.” – Andy
💡 “Be kind to yourself. Don’t wait for the “perfect” time—just start. Some days will be hard, some workouts will feel impossible, but progress isn’t about perfection. It’s about showing up, even in small ways." – Joanna
💡 “Fitness doesn’t have to mean hours at the gym—just focus on movement that fits your life. And remember, it’s not about getting your old body back, but about feeling strong and confident in the one you have now.” – Monica
Wherever you are on your fitness journey, know that strength comes in many forms. It’s in every step, every rep, and every choice to show up for yourself.
